Alexandra Eames was furious. She’d taken three weeks from the New York Snow and freezing temperatures to come to sunny Florida and relax in the sun and drink margaritas with her three girlfriends.
Instead she was sitting in this ’Glades’ police station waiting to be interviewed by some local Barney Fife all because her friend Samantha just had to find some dead guy in the swamp they were sightseeing by boat. The tour boat SHE had not wanted to go on. She wanted the sun, the pool and a Margarita.
She had kept everyone from disturbing the scene, even on vacation the murder cop in her came out.
The woman who took over the scene did not impress her in the least. Alex tried to offer her some advice but got slapped back down to witness/suspect.
So here she was in this dimly lit excuse for a police station while the sun, the pool and her drink was out there somewhere through those doors.
Her friend was led out of the interrogation room by a small woman and Alex was motioned to go in.
Steaming, she put on her best major case squad-best detectives in the world-face on and entered prepared for battle.
“Have a seat,” the man smiled with gentle intelligence in his eyes.
He took the wind out of her sails and put butterflies in her stomach. He was adorable in a very hot way. Four questions into their interview Alex knew this was no small town cop.
She broke the train of questions, “You’re not from here; not New York, I’d know you.”
He raised an eyebrow and a smile touched his lips, “And you know every cop in New York City.”
“When you’ve been a cop your entire life and work in the Major Case Squad, you’ve seen most of the guys that work there. Miami? Atlanta?”
“Major Case...impressive. Chicago.”
“Interesting. Come to Florida to get away from a bad relationship.”
Came to work on my tan, lay back, and play golf.”
"How's it working out?"
“Now, whose interviewing who, Ms. Eames?"
“Alex.”
"I found people kill each other in Florida as they do in Illinois. Alex, well you notice anything that could help me with this one.”
You want my opinion. Your coworkers seem to think my opinion isn’t worth much.”
“They can be difficult to merge into.
“I can see that. How'd you do it."
"I have a natural charm."
"I can see that."
"And I don't give a damn what anybody thinks, I just do what it takes to solve my cases."
"I've got a partner like you."
"Huh."
But getting back to the body. . .” She gave him details she noted; many not noted by the the policewoman on scene.
“You’ve got a good eye.”
“I should.”
Jim took stock of the woman before him. Early forties but she took very good care of herself. Short blonde hair, she wore a bikini top and shorts. She was petite and feisty. Perfect figure and shapely legs for her size.
Callie had told him she was going to try to make it work with her husband for her son’s sake. She told him he should see other women. He wasn’t sure what that meant. He wasn't sure what HE wanted.
But he took a leap and smiled his best smile, “I appreciate the assistance. Perhaps you’d like to compare our detective skills over a steak grilled by my pool tonight?’
Alex had been trying to figure how to see him again without appearing to be one of those pathetic vacationing desperate women.
As she walked from the room she paused and gave him a very female perusal, “Perhaps we could, and perhaps you could end up being my vacation fling.”
Carlos came in, “We’ve got all kinds of DNA and the murder weapon. Gun belongs to the brother-in-law.”
“Figures. Sister was regular punching bag for the bastard. Apparently her brother decided to put an end to it. Want to go with me to pick him up?
Driving to the suspect’s house Carlos looked over at Jim, “Okay, what?”
“Want are you talking about?”
“You have that look on your face. Just spit it out. No. Wait, I changed my mind. I don’t want to know.”
“When a woman is trying to “make it work” with her husband and tells you to see other people. Does that mean SEE other people or see other people?”
“We’re talking about Callie, right? Then I say she means SEE but wants see.”

On the last day of her vacation Alex lay naked and sated in Jim’s bed. Her plane left in five hours. He was a fine male specimen laying sprawled naked, asleep on his back. Since part of him was awake, she bent over taking him in her hand then her tongue flicked before her mouth closed over him. He woke groaning pulling her up to feast on her breasts and slide between her legs that wrapped around him.
She thought he’d completely drained her, until he joined her in the shower. She energized right up.
Several hours later she sat looking across the car at him as they sit outside the entrance to the airport. She moved in to meet him with her lips. Sitting back, she opened the door and gave him one more longing look, “You solve your murder/”
“I did.”
"Enjoy your nights?"
"I did. I certainly did," he whispered against her lips.
“Ever come to New York?”
“Not planning on it, kindda got used to the sun and humidity.”
Her friends rushed up, “Come on, Alex, we’re going to miss the flight.”
She sighed and stepped out of the car; she bent down and smiled, “See you around, Detective Longworth.”
“Been a pleasure, Detective Eames.”

Once back at her desk in the MCS Alex leaned back closed her eyes and smiled. Bobby cocked his head to one side, "You've been awfully relaxed and happy since you got back. Must've had a good time."
She sat forward and grinned, "Yeah, you could say that. I am now officially a cougar." She stood and walked toward the conference room.
Bobby stared open-mouthed after her.

A week later Jim got a post card from New York with a scene of a snow covered New York skyline. Her name and address was in the corner. He read the one line and smiled.
