basric: (BOBBY LOVE--PLAYING DEAD)
[personal profile] basric

Well here we've seen four badly written episodes of Goren and Eames. Why last years A-list writers were replaced with C-list writers is maybe so Jeff could come out strong. Even Vincent has trouble carrying the show because he is in the show MUCH LESS with the guest stars having more lines. And they have Bobby not being Bobby. This guy is slow and pondering. Bobby couldn't sit still and spoke so fast trying to keep up with his thoughts. Did these writers never ever watch the show?

Enough bitching. I still, because of my great love of the man and his craft, have finally finished scripting and capping the first episode PLAYING DEAD, which I enjoyed more as I read the dialog. The next three should move faster. Not working as much only three 12 hour night shifts a week instead of five, no travel plans until fall and have the home front settled and hubby happy.

If you're interested in reading the episode it's linked on my home page or go to CI_DIALOG_CAPS.

Here's to hoping LO:CI survives the season with these half-assed writers so we'll have another season perhaps with better writers and producers.

And now a little something for those with the Goren fetishes.

Mine...that strong broad back.

OMG LOOK AT THESE SHOULDERS!

I don't think the episodes themselves are written poorly. I've enjoyed the plot in each of them. I feel the problem is Goren. He's not himself. Whether that's the writing or not, I don't know. Whether it's intentional by VDO or just simply bored, I don't know. But I don't dislike the episodes themselves.

Basric, I agree with you about the writing - in the new episodes there is too much stupid, meaningless and utterly pointless "stuff" going on, wasting precious seconds that could be spent on better showcasing the main characters - continuing their development, maintaining storylines from previous seasons etc. Goren and Eames have become utterly two-dimensional and it is hard to distinguish what makes them any more interesting than any other cut-rate cop show, cheaply produced and thrown together on a whim.

There is no tension or surprise keeping me on the edge of my seat in any of the episodes I have seen in this season. In older episodes, think how we LOVE to see Goren closing in on the killer, getting him or her to cave in under his relentless pressure to open up and confess. To do this, you need a complex plot and interesting characters. In the past, there was so much happening in any one episode that they sometimes had to change individual words to shorter versions, in order to save precious seconds of story-telling time. But now, they are padding the episodes out with a whole host of cheap filling - like the bit where Goren & Eames "chase" the perp at the polystyrene factory in last week's episode .. that was just unnecessary and embarrassing.

No wonder Goren appears to be "not himself", as mtwendyr says. D'Onofrio is an energetic and intelligent actor who says "You can only do what is written in the script." Normally, he does so much more than is written in the script! But now, there's just nothing for him to work with. LO:CI has become predictable and formulaic, and it honest to God makes me cry. Seriously, if I think about it too hard, I cry!

I think I need to go out and get a life, don't you? HAHAHAHAHA.

lovely pics. my fav. pose is bobby with arms folded as you can see he's thinking and is about to have a go at the perp. i do so agree at what lozziecap says.put some fire in the mans belly, give him back his passion.thats why we watch it because goren is different from other cops.x

I think the slower, quieter Goren is a conscious decision on D'Onof's and the writers' part. I think things are picking up gradually (if you go by chronological order, not air dates), so hopefully he'll get back to some semblance of what he was, but considering everything that's happened it'd feel cheap if he were magically back to normal. Also considering that he's older and not the arrogant wunderkind he once was. Imho. I can imagine that after a few years of playing Goren totally over the top, D'Onof might enjoy playing for subtlety. It works for me, personally, but I can see where you'd be left cold.

ANYWAY. I leaning poses, as do many people (I think there was a lean in "Playing Dead"?), and any shot that frames him in a doorway, which sets off a OH HEY THERE BIG GUY, HOW YOU DOIN'? drool-response in my brain. I am a sucker for big dudes.

D'you know, I don't have a favourite pose for this man! I've been pondering the question all afternoon. Honestly, I just love watching his bod do just about any old thing you care to mention. I love the way Goren is always in motion, always DOING something. He's a real pleasure to watch, even just walking down a New York street talking to Eames. I find it virtually impossible to watch anyone else he is in shot with - I literally only have eyes for him.

I agree with Lozzie too they need to put the passion back in the show period. But I'd not desert it. Simply because I could watch Vincent watching paint dry.

Once LO:CI is gone I'm afraid he'll bury himself in writing, directing and producing and we'll rarely see his pretty face at all.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

That MAKES TO OF US. I'M JUST afraid THEY GAVE THE A-list writers to Jeff to build up his character and lessened Bobby's charisma so people would watch Jeff and not compare Nichols to Goren. What's to compare. Bobby's turned into a cardboard cop. Makes me want to cry.

Isn't Wolfe watching out for his shows anymore,or just sitting on his ass drawing his residuals.

Compared to the previous seasons, the shows are weak cop shows that any actor could play. They need to put the fire back in Ross, Alex and especially Goren.

Case files are good--too much guest stars not enough cast. This has to do with the writers and producer not the actors.

Thanks for commenting.

Alex has got much more fire than she has had in previous seasons. Goren is the area of concern. And I'm curious as to what you mean by too much guest starts and not enough cast? The show has always focussed on the guest characters, so your statement makes no sense to me.

I cap & script the episodes. In previous seasons you would have the opening crime then you would usually only see the guest stars when interrogated unofficially or officially by Goren & Eames with maybe one possibly two scenes with the guest stars alone panicking over what the cops know. And the aria or final scene was all about Goren/Eames taking the bad guy/guys down.

Now there are seven or eight scenes of the guest stars alone talking, and the aria is ending with the guest stars talking (or in Playing Dead, crying) and Goren/Eames watching.

I enjoyed the ending zingers from seasons before that always wrapped up the criminal. These no longer exist. Sadly. Everything is slow and pondering with the Nichols side getting the zingers.

As far as Alex, she looks sexier but her lines are not her snarky comments of the past. And poor Ross seems a bit lost. As great an actor as Eric is, that is a waste. But then so it is with Vincent and Kate.

But as I said before, I'd watch Vincent watching paint dry. I just miss the vibrating Goren.

Ia am not alone in these thoughts. There are a lot of angry followers out there raging over the poor writing this season.

But if you enjoy it I'm glad. Each of us to our own.

To be honest, the show has always been about the guest star/actor. That's it's main focus, and that's where the show does best. I'm glad they're going back to that.

Alex's snark has been absent since her kidnapping- at least it's been reduced. In Sunday's episode she said probably one of her best lines to date. "They have more toys than FAO Schwarz but they don't baby-proof the house?"
That was, quite frankly, awesome and should be on her list of best lines.

And, whilst I don't entirely disagree in terms of Goren, I do feel it's important to say I'm not the only one enjoying this season so far. So, even if there are a lot of angry followers, there is also an even number of happy fans. So, yes, each to their own. I'm saddened you can't enjoy it because of what's happened with Goren.
