When several 'households' inhabit the same place, multiple copies happen. And sometimes there are different editions, you see a pretty one and can't resist. Or maybe a practical paperback, and a respectable hardback.

I once played with the idea of buying out all the different translations of The Hobbit, but then realized that I didn't want to anymore.

Oh, yeah. Here you go, I have two editions of The Hobbit in English - one I bought for myself, the other was in the boxed set of The Lord of the Rings my friend gave me, as a prequel.
